About Us
The Alliance was formed in
the early nineteen seventies to be a voice for Coarse
Angling in the
Northumbrian region.
When the conurbation of Tyne and Wear was disbanded, there was a danger of local
waters, which had always been considered as free fisheries, being sold off or
leased to wealthy clubs outside the region.
The Alliance entered into negotiations with Gateshead and Newcastle Councils.
Leases were obtained on two stretches of the Tyne and several ponds located in
the Tyneside area. The Councils of course did not give these waters for nothing.
Rents were agreed and clubs in the area were asked to pay annual fees to meet
these rents.
The alliance is managed by a committee consisting of two delegates from each club, who conduct the business
of the Alliance. The committee meets once a month.
